Lisa MacKinney is a historian and musician from Melbourne, Australia. She has a Masters degree in medieval history, and Dressed in Black: The Shangri-Las and Their Recorded Legacy started life as her PhD thesis (University of Western Australia, 2011); it has been considerably expanded and updated for publication in book form. ­

MacKinney has contributed numerous articles to academic journals, books, and music magazines, including Uncut and Limelight. She plays guitar and organ, and has performed extensively in Australia and internationally, both solo (as Mystic Eyes) and with bands including Super Luminum, Taipan Tiger Girls, and Hospital Pass.
